Why Hire Here?

With over 1,700 talented students studying computer science and informatics, UMass Amherst is the perfect place to achieve your recruiting goals.

Here are some of the top reasons you should hire @ CICS.

Did you know our “state school” undergrads have an average SAT of 1400 and a GPA of 4.3? Our MS and PhD students have resumes packed with skills and experience, and along with our outstanding faculty, help us attain a top 20 ranking. It’s no surprise that our CICS graduates compete for the best positions at top companies.

...and even better when they graduate! Hundreds of employers can verify the caliber of our CICS alumni, including senior leaders at Microsoft, Amazon and Google. You might even already have UMass alumni who would be excited to come back to Amherst to meet current students (and have some Antonio’s pizza).

...but still find time to be hackers. Our community is proudly committed to two major hackathons in Western Massachusetts: HackUMass - 1000+ hackers in the fall and Hack(H)er413 - 300+ women in the spring. Our students are passionate innovators motivated to have a positive impact through new ideas.

Student talking to recruiterOur students explore a wide variety of opportunities…

Graduates have diverse areas of interest ranging from applying Machine Learning to Healthcare to ensuring cybersecurity leadership in Financial Services and Defense. We encourage students to explore a variety of roles, industries, and domains from day one which means every employer can find students passionate about their area.

...but often decide to stay right at home here in Massachusetts. With a 65 percent in-state retention rate for undergraduates and 37 percent for graduate students, you can recruit the top talent in Massachusetts. As the state’s flagship public university, we pride ourselves on helping locals and visitors alike drive the economy here in the Commonwealth (see our Destination Report infographics).
