The weekend celebration to honor Distinguished Professor Emeritus Jim Kurose will take place April 5-6, 2024.

12:00 - 1:00 PM.  Room 150-151, Computer Science Building
"Fireside Chat: Advancing Technology, Innovation and Partnerships"  
Erwin Gianchandani,
NSF Assistant Director for Technology Innovation and Partnerships will participate in a fireside chat about NSF's new Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP). We'll talk about how the TIP directorate and its programmatics are advancing critical technologies, accelerating the translation of these technologies from the lab to society, addressing pressing economic challenges, and engaging the Nation's broad and diverse population in this work.  Jim Kurose will moderate the fireside chat.

3:00 - 5:00 PM Campus-wide reception. Room 150-151 Computer Science Building   
The Manning College of Information and Computer Science will host a reception honoring Jim and his contributions.

Each session will have invited speakers followed by an "open mic" open to all.

9:00 am - 10:30 am: Research
Chair: Henning Schulzrinne (Columbia University)  
This session will discuss networking-related research during the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s from the perspective of students, faculty, and industry researchers involved with networking research at UMass Amherst.

10:30 am - 11:00 am: Break

11:00 am - 11:45 am: Collaborations around the world or "Jim's well kept secret: How to increase your scientific reputation by selecting the right conferences!"  
Chairs: Christophe Diot (Google) and Serge Fdida (Sorbonne University)
This session, with photos and videos from over the decades, will focus on the international collaborations that Jim has enjoyed around the world. 

11:45 am - 12:30 pm: Service 
Chair: Rick Adrion, (UMass Amherst).  We all contribute to many communities in computer science. In this session, we'll hear from local, state, national and international research and education communities in computer science.

12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Lunch

1:30 pm - 2:15 pm Education 
Chair: Keith Ross , (NYU Abu Dhabi)
As with service, we have many different educational communities - in our home departments, our university, and internationally.  And there are classes, books, tutorials, and other educational activities that we've all been involved with.  What's happened here in computer science and networking, and where might we be heading?

2:15 pm - 3:00 pm Afternoon Open Mic
