Workforce analytics, data science for social good, causal learning, peer influence at scale, entrepreneurship.

Matt's current research is focused on applying Data Science techniques to vast amounts of workforce data (resume data, job postings, employment histories, skills taxonomies) held by industry and government organizations.  His research answers questions such as: How can we effectively model career paths to identify the skills, credentials, and relationships that are necessary for advancement?  How can policy makers and government service providers more effectively create opportunities for the underemployed?  How can education and training facilities better prepare their students for the modern labor market?

Dr. Rattigan is the Director of Research Programs for the Center for Data Science.  He is reponsible for identifying, scoping, and spearheading new research initiatives for the Center, and serves as a technical partner for industrial collaborators.  Before joining CDS, Matt co-founded Edgeflip, a data-intensive social media startup focused serving social good organizations.  In 2012, Matt was a part of the transformational analytics team at Obama For America, where he led the campaign's targeted social media efforts.  Matt holds a BA from Wesleyan University, and an MA and PhD in Computer Science from UMass.
