Candidates Weekend Welcome

Dear Prospective Graduate Students,

We would like to welcome you to Candidates Weekend 2011 at the Department of Computer Science, University of Massachusetts, Amherst. We hope that you will find your stay here enjoyable while you explore the exciting research options that our department has to offer.

For your convenience, we have set up this website to provide links to various web pages that may be of interest.

Logistics

It will be a fun and exciting week's end in which you will travel, meet lots of new people, and learn about a great place to do your graduate studies. Be sure to check out the schedule, map, and directions so you know when and where you are going and don't miss out on anything.

The latest schedule for candidates weekend.

A map of the area as well as directions to get here.

Accommodations are available at the Campus Center Hotel. Some candidates may prefer to stay with our grad students please make your preference known to Leeanne Leclerc when you confirm your reservation for Candidates Weekend and the necessary arrangments will be made in a first-come, first-served manner (if you don't confirm your reservation now, then you may get stuck in the hotel instead of living the plush life of a grad student for the weekend :).

The Department

The primary purpose of Candidates Weekend is for you to familiarize yourself with the department and the research conducted by its faculty and graduate students. Before you come, you should know something about these research groups so you have some direction during your visit.

You won't have enough time to visit every lab or talk to every professor, so glance at the following web sites to maximize your time on campus.

Note: You will be able to sign up for appointments with faculty on Saturday morning.

The Happy Valley

An important part of Candidates Weekend is learning about the area in which you will be living as you pursue your graduate studies.

Since the weekend is a very limited time to do this, we recommend that you spend some time perusing the following links to get a feel for life in the Pioneer ("Happy") Valley.

Questions? Feel free to send us email.

Again, welcome to UMass. We hope that you will join us next fall!
