UMassCTF Prep: Linux Fun-damentals (International)

15 Sep
Tuesday, 09/15/2020 2:30am to 3:30am
Virtual via Twitch
Special Event

This event will be a hands-on introduction to Linux operating systems. Participants will learn how to set up their own virtual environments, get a feel for navigating the system, and acquire a number of important skills by solving a series of puzzles with their bash terminal.

The primary purpose of this event is to prepare people for UMassCTF, a week-long security-focused Capture-The-Flag event happening in early October. However, the topics we will cover are useful for more than just UMassCTF. For example, undergraduate CICS students will use virtual Linux environments in many of their courses, so learning the basics now is a great way to get a head start!

This live stream event is scheduled to work well for international students and will serve as an "office hour" for the domestic event. Participants are encouraged to first watch the primary event's recording, which will be made promptly available on YouTube. Then, during this stream, an instructor will briefly review the topics covered and work through any points of confusion.
