In this talk, I will offer some tips and actionable advice on how to improve your public speaking skills.
I will use CS conference/seminar talks as my focus point, though the ideas we'll discuss are broadly applicable.
We will cover:
1. Content - what should go into your slides, and slide design.
2. Presentation skills, and overcoming anxiety.
3. Handling audience questions.
The talk is aimed at graduate students but is open to anyone who's interested in public speaking in technical venues.
I will draw on my own experience with conference talks, as well as formal training in public speaking/classroom instruction.
