CIIR Talk Series: Transform Work with AI: From Graphs to LLMs

Abstract: The way people work has undergone significant changes in recent years, with the abrupt transition to remote work and the fast adoption of Generative AI. Building productivity tools offers special challenges and opportunities for AI research. In this talk, I will present various research efforts to enhance collaboration and productivity with AI. I will cover how causal inference and graphs can inform better work setup, how workplace recommender systems can be customized for different organizational goals, and early insights on how people use Generative AI for work. The potential of AI for work is unbounded, and we are at the start of an exciting journey ahead to build a better future of work together.

Bio: Dr. Longqi Yang is a Principal Applied Research Manager at Microsoft’s Office of Applied Research, where he leads AI research for work and productivity. His research spans across Recommender Systems, Organizational Networks, and Generative AI, particularly their applications to enterprise and future of work. His work appeared in top science journals (e.g., PNAS, Nature Human Behaviour), received paper awards from top CS conferences (e.g., CHI, KDD) and was covered by major news outlets (e.g., The Washington Post, BBC, CNBC, Forbes, The Atlantic, Bloomberg, Business Insider, Inc., Harvard Business Review, etc.).  Dr. Yang received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University.
