Undergraduate CS Curriculum - Courses from other Departments

Courses from Other Departments

CS MAJORS:  CSENG and MATH courses may be similar in content to CS courses.  Students who have completed courses prior to becoming a CS Major require UPD approval to count courses from another department toward CS Major requirements (BA/BS).  The Academic Requirements Report (ARR) will require a fix to show the approved substitution.

CS MINORS:  Effective September 1, 2019*, implementation of the Multiple Credential Policy means that courses from other departments will no longer count toward CS Minor requirements.  In particular, MATHCMPTNG and CSENG Majors will not be eligible for the CS Minor.

The following courses can be used as alternate prerequisites for COMPSCI and CICS courses (via override, subject to available seats).  The Undergraduate Program Committee (UPC) will review course content periodically to ensure course material is being sufficiently covered.

  • ECE 122 can be used as an alternative prerequisite for CICS 160.
  • ECE 241 can be used as an alternative prerequisite for COMPSCI 240 and 250.
  • ECE 241 can be used in place of CICS 210 for any course with a CICS 210 prerequisite.

procedural application

CS Major - BS:
UPD approved equivalents taken prior to becoming a CS Major will be updated on the ARR.

CS Major - BA:
UPD approved equivalents taken prior to becoming a CS Major will be updated on the ARR, however, cannot be used toward more than one requirement, i.e., CS core and Four Course Outside Concentration.

CS Minor:
UPD approved equivalents do not count toward CS Minor requirements..

*CSENG and MATHCMPTNG Majors on the CS Minors List must complete CS Minor requirements according to the Multiple Credential Policy and will not be allowed to substitute other department courses.  The Undergraduate Program is committed to provide access to CS courses so CS Minor List students have every opportunity to complete the CS Minor before graduation.
