Communications Assistant: Master's Student Hourly Position

The College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) seeks a detail-oriented and reliable master's student to write and edit news for a variety of communications vehicles, including the CICS website, print and email newsletters, and social media.

Responsibilities

  • Write student and faculty news briefs and features for a variety of communications vehicles
  • Update the college's website, www.cics.umass.edu
  • Assist in the creation of the college's weekly email newsletter
  • Conduct research and interview faculty and students for news articles
  • Assist with creation of event materials
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with significant domain knowledge in computer and information sciences
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently
  • (preferred) Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign or Photoshop), basic understanding of image formats and CSS
  • (preferred) Experience writing in journalistic style; knowledge of Associated Press or Chicago Manual of Style style guides

Hourly rate: $15/hr.

Schedule: 10-20 hours / wk. during the academic year
