Advisor & Student Expectations

Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences advisors are committed to helping you. As your partner at the university, we also hope you will take specific actions towards a successful advising relationship.

Advisors will:

  • Provide a welcoming, respectful, and safe environment for conversation
  • Engage you in discussions about your experiences, goals, and needs
  • Refer you to resources that support your personal and academic development
  • Provide accurate information about academic requirements and milestones
  • Teach you about policies and procedures, and how to navigate the university
  • Encourage you to build a meaningful, personalized undergraduate experience
  • Be an accessible and appreciative ally throughout your undergraduate career

Students will:

  • Check email frequently and respond to university communications appropriately
  • Learn how to track academic progress via university systems
  • Consider and act on the information and advice provided by their advisor
  • Let us know when they need help with academic and personal challenges
  • Develop increasing responsibility for the decisions that shape their academic experience
  • Examine their role in Computing for the Common Good, and their current and future impact on society
