Donor-Funded Scholarships and Fellowships List
Each year, more than $140,000 in scholarship and fellowship aid is awarded to Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences undergraduate and doctoral students. Most of these awards are generously funded by alumni, members of the CICS community, and industry partners.
Applications are administered through Academic Works and open on September 1, closing on October 15. Award notifications are sent in mid-December. Learn how to apply »

David Mix Barrington Scholarship in Computer Science
Established by Quentin Clark ’94, this scholarship honors Professor David Mix Barrington and provides support to rising seniors.
Dr. Phil Bernstein Graduate Scholarship in Computer Science
Established by Hanuma Kodavalla, MS ’88, this scholarship provides support for graduate students in the computer science MS/PhD program, with preference given to students pursuing degrees in the area of systems.
Lori A. Clarke Scholarship in Computer Science
Established in 2013 by a group of alumni in honor of Professor Emerita Lori Clarke, this scholarship supports a first-year graduate student in computer science.
W. Bruce Croft Graduate Scholarship in Computer Science
Established by Trevor Strohman, MS '05, PhD '08, and Anne-Marie Strohman, PhD '14 (English), in honor of Distinguished Professor W. Bruce Croft, this scholarship provides support to graduate students in the computer science PhD program.
John E. and Alice M. Flynn Scholarship
This scholarship provides support to undergraduate computer science students.
Jim Gray Scholarship in Computer Science
Established by Hanuma Kodavalla, MS ’88, to pay tribute to renowned computer scientist Jim Gray, who was lost at sea in 2007, this scholarship provides support to a first-year graduate student pursuing research in the area of systems.
Sudha and Rajesh Jha Scholarship
Established by Sudha Mishra and Rajesh Jha, MS ‘90, in appreciation for the support Rajesh received as a student, this scholarship provides support to first-year graduate students.
Joe Kislo Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established by Joe Kislo ’00, this scholarship provides support to computer science students. Eligible recipients will have a demonstrated financial need, with preference given to students who are employed while pursuing their degrees.
Kodandapani Family Endowed Scholarship
Established by Kolar Kodandapani and Girija Kodandapani, this scholarship provides support to undergraduate computer science students.
Anuradha and Hanuma Kodavalla Graduate Scholarship in Computer Science
Established by Hanuma Kodavalla, MS ’88, and Anuradha Kodavalla, this scholarship provides support for a graduate student in the computer science program.
James Kurose Scholarship in Computer Science
Established by Steve Vinter ’85 to recognize the contributions of Distinguished Professor James "Jim" Kurose to the University of Massachusetts Amherst computer science community and the field of computer science, this scholarship supports first-year graduate students in the field of systems.
Victor Lesser Graduate Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence
Established by former graduate students of Distinguished Professor Emeritus Victor Lesser to honor his extraordinary career and thoughtful mentoring of more than 30 computer scientists who have worked in the field of multi-agent systems, this scholarship is awarded to a PhD student specializing in artificial intelligence (AI).
Dr. Dave Lomet Graduate Scholarship
Established by Hanuma Kodavalla, MS ’88, this scholarship supports a graduate student in the computer science MS/PhD program, with a preference for students pursuing degrees in the area of systems.
Dr. C. Mohan Graduate Scholarship
Established by Hanuma Kodavalla, MS ’88, this scholarship provides support for a graduate student in the computer science MS/PhD program, with a preference for students pursuing degrees in the area of systems.
Robert Moll Scholarship in Computer Science
Established by Steve Willis '78 in honor of Professor Emeritus Robert Moll, an innovative researcher noted for his dedication to his students, this scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student who has attended a community college.
Robin Popplestone Memorial Fellowship
Established in memory of Professor Emeritus Robin Popplestone, this scholarship provides support to a graduate computer science student pursuing research in the area of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI).
Krithi Ramamritham Computer Science Scholarship
Established by a group of Krithi Ramamritham's graduate students in recognition and appreciation of his work and influence, this scholarship offers support to graduate students conducting research in the fields of data management, computer systems, or related disciplines.
Edward Riseman and Allen Hanson Scholarship in Computer Science
Established in memory of Professor Emeritus Edward Riseman and in honor of Professor Emeritus Allen Hanson, this scholarship provides support to a first-year graduate student interested in computer vision research.
David W. Stemple Scholarship
Established in memory of Professor Emeritus David Stemple, this scholarship provides support to a first-year graduate student specializing in systems research.
Donald F. Towsley Graduate Scholarship in Computer Science
Established in honor of Professor Don Towsley, this scholarship provides support to a student pursuing a PhD in CS whose research interests lie in networking science, measurements, and performance analysis.
Paul Utgoff Memorial Graduate Scholarship
Established in memory of Professor Paul Utgoff, this scholarship provides support to first-year graduate students pursuing machine learning research, especially those interested in interdisciplinary applications of machine learning such as music, biological sciences, or other sciences.
Conrad Wogrin Undergraduate Scholarship in Computer Science
Established to honor Professor Emeritus Conrad “Connie” Wogrin, this scholarship recognizes undergraduate computer science students based on their demonstrated academic merit.
Computer Science Community Endowed Scholarship
Established to support scholarships at Manning CICS, this award gives preference to undergraduate computer science students.
Dean's Merit Scholarship
Established to recognize and reward academic excellence and innovation in computer science applications, this scholarship supports students in the BS or BA computer science program who have completed at least one semester in the major.
Dean's International Scholarship
Established in recognition that international students incur travel and other expenses to attend the program, and that many families make significant sacrificed to enable their students to attend UMass, this scholarship supports international students in the BS or BA program in computer science who have completed at least one semester in the major.
Silicon Valley Computer Science Alumni Scholarship
Established by alumni and friends of Manning CICS, this scholarship supports rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are pursuing interdisciplinary programs that combine computer science with other disciplines.
