Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) Associate Professor Ivan Lee and Assistant Professor VP Nguyen were among 12 teams selected to receive 2025 Translational Seed Awards, which support UMass Amherst faculty in advancing research toward practical applications. 

Lee received $100,000 in seed funding for a wearable health technology platform enabled by a smart wristband that monitors post-stroke rehabilitation progress and provides AI-powered recovery recommendations. 

Nguyen received $100,000 in seed funding for a wearable ring designed to enable continuous, real-time blood pressure monitoring.  

The Translational Seed Awards advance applied research and development efforts from UMass Amherst-based faculty research groups toward the development of startup companies or the licensing of university intellectual property.  

The awards are funded by the Manning Innovation Program, the U.S. National Science Foundation Accelerating Research Translation award and the Institute for Applied Life Sciences Awarded teams receive between $50,000 and $100,000 in seed funding.
