US News Best College Rankings

In the U.S. News & World Report rankings published last week, the UMass Amherst College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) is ranked in the top 15 of the nation's public computer science undergraduate programs, maintaining its spot at #13 from last year's rankings.

CICS also holds the top spot for undergraduate public programs in the Northeast. Overall, CICS ranks 31st among all 538 ranked public and private undergraduate computer science programs in the nation, tied with New York University, University of California Davis, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, University of Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

Published for only the second time this year, the U.S. News & World Report undergraduate computer science rankings reflect the judgment of deans and senior faculty members at programs from peer institutions.

U.S. News also uses peer assessment to evaluate programs in ten computer science specialty areas. Of those, CICS ranks #8 for Mobile/Web Applications, #12 for Software Engineering, #16 for Artificial Intelligence, and #22 for Data Analytics.

At the campus level, the University of Massachusetts Amherst maintained its status as one of the nation's best public universities, ranking #26 among the 209 national public universities evaluated in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Guide, the same position as last year.

A complete list of rankings and more information about the rankings methodology are available on the U.S. News website.
