About
Neha Makhija’s research focuses on bridging the theoretical and practical aspects of data management. Her core research goal is to uncover algorithmic principles by which one can leverage structure implicitly present in data to answer complicated queries. Her work has focused on problems in the domain of explainable data management, causality, and knowledge compilation - with the goal of discovering when we can solve these typically hard problems efficiently.
Neha joined the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2025. Prior to that, she obtained her Ph.D. from Northeastern University where she was advised by Wolfgang Gatterbauer, and her work was recognized with the Khoury PhD Research Award (2025).
