About

Evan Newman is a Systems Engineer at the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences at UMass Amherst, where he supports the research and computing needs of faculty, graduate students, and PhD researchers. He specializes in Linux systems administration, with hands-on experience in data center operations including servers, rack buildout, IDF buildout, and physical infrastructure deployment. Most recently, Evan played a central role in bringing the college's new Computer Science Laboratories Building online, overseeing the integration of technology from cabling to systems.

Evan holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Johnson and Wales University and an Associate degree in Computer Security from Springfield Technical Community College, and is currently pursuing his Master of Science in Computer Science at UMass Amherst.

Outside of work, Evan has deep roots in hands-on fabrication. He spent years working in metal fabrication and restoration, with experience in welding, sandblasting, custom paintwork, and restoring everything from vintage cars and motorcycles to antiques and architectural metalwork. He is currently completing a full restoration from paint to engine work on a classic Acura in his garage. Evan has a passion for motorsports and stays active through Olympic weightlifting and an overall love of physical fitness.
