Registration Updates

This page will list updates affecting registration in CICS, COMPSCI, and INFO courses such as eligibility changes, saved seats, or course availability.

If you are unable to enroll yourself in a class, first read the error message and the class notes on SPIRE. If you have questions, email your advisor or overrides [at] cs [dot] umass [dot] edu (overrides[at]cs[dot]umass[dot]edu) but don't email instructors, as they cannot assist you with registration. Students needing special permission or who are still having unexpected issues enrolling can submit an override request via the Override Request Form.

Fall 2026 Registration Updates

COMPSCI Courses

COMPSCI 119

Eligibility for this course will include Juniors beginning April 28. Updated 4/28/26.

COMPSCI 311

Eligibility for this course will include Sophomores beginning August 4. Updated 8/3/2026.

COMPSCI 325

Course eligibility will temporarily be set to INFO juniors/seniors only until junior registration ends on Friday, 4/17. By the start of sophomore registration on Tuesday 4/21, the eligibility will open to both CS and INFO juniors/seniors. Updated 3/10/26.

COMPSCI 345

Eligibility for this course will include Sophomores beginning August 4. Updated 8/3/2026. 

(Sections 01 and 02) Course eligibility will temporarily be set to INFO juniors/seniors only until junior registration ends on Friday, 4/17. By the start of sophomore registration on Tuesday 4/21, the eligibility will open to both CS and INFO juniors/seniors. Updated 3/10/26.

COMPSCI 348

This course has officially been cancelled for Fall 2026. Updated 4/10/26.

COMPSCI 383

Additional seats are being opened for this course, anticipated to be available by end of day. Updated 4/30/26.

COMPSCI 420

The reserve for this course has been removed because the quota of juniors was met. Updated 4/14/26.

A reserve has been set which will hold 5 seats for juniors. In some cases, SPIRE may prevent seniors from registering if there are not enough juniors enrolled. Updated 4/8/26.

CICS 256

Eligibility for this course will include Juniors beginning April 28. Updated 4/27/26.

CICS 110

After eligible CS, INFORM, MATH, PHYSICS, CMPLING AND STATS + DATA SCI majors have enrolled, will open to all undergraduate freshmen, sophomore, and juniors, if available seats. Freshmen, sophomore, and juniors in other majors should wait for the eligibility restriction to be removed to self-enroll and should not request an override. Updated 4/9/26.

CICS 160

This course will open to all undergraduates on or before 8/4/2026. 

After eligible CS, INFORM and COMP LING majors have enrolled, will open to other majors, if available seats. Eligible non-majors should wait for the major elibility restriction to be removed to self-enroll and should not request an override. Updated 4/9/26.

CICS 210

After eligible CS, INFORM, COMP LING, and Math majors in the MTHCMPTING subplan have enrolled, will open to other Freshman, Sophomore and Juniors, if available seats. Eligible students in other majors should wait for the major eligibility restriction to be removed to self-enroll and should not request an override. Updated 4/9/26.

After new and transfer student registration is completed, will open to all non-CS undergraduates. Non-Majors should wait to self-enroll or add to the waitlist (if available) and should not request an override. Updated 4/9/26.

This course will open to all non-CS undergraduates on or around Monday, June 29. Non-Majors should be able to self-enroll. Updated 6/26/26.

INFO 203

This course will open to all non-CS undergraduates on or around Monday, June 29. Non-Majors should should be able to self-enroll. Updated 6/26/26.

INFO 248

This course will open to all undergraduates (who have the prerequisites) on or around Friday, July 24. Updated 7/17/26.

INFO 324 

A request to update the eligibility to include CS majors was sent to the Registrar's Office today. The eligibility change should take place today 4/30 and CS majors with the prerequisites should be able to enroll themselves. Updated 4/30/26.

When the initial registration period ends in late April, eligibility will open to include CS majors. CS majors with the prerequisite should enroll themselves in the class after the eligibility changes and shouldn't submit an override request. Updated 4/2/26.
