      • Graduate school funds may be awarded to students only if they are presenting work done while a graduate student at UMass Amherst for a conference. Applications are considered throughout the year by the CICS GPD.

External Scholarships

The following funding opportunities are available to graduate students. Scholarships are available to an identified group of individuals. If you wish to add another scholarship, please send the information to %20ehamel [at] cs [dot] umass [dot] edu (ehamel[at]cs[dot]umass[dot]edu) for our consideration. Certain fellowships must be nominated by the college and a call for nominations will be sent to all faculty and staff when the deadline approaches.

Google Student Veterans of America ScholarshipUndergraduate or graduate student who is a veteran (includes members of the National Guard or Reserve) as proven by a DD-214 and transcript, or a student on Active Duty as proven by submission of Active Duty orders.$10,000 
Women in Defense ScholarshipUndergraduate and graduate students with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career related to national security or defense.

DOE Computational Science Graduate FellowshipUndergraduate seniors, current master's degree students, first-year graduate students. 
Ford Foundation Predoctoral FellowshipStudents who can confirm holding a previous Ford Foundation Fellowship.$50,000
Ford Foundation Dissertation FellowshipsStudents who need support in the final year of writing and defense of the dissertation.$28,000
GEM FellowshipSenior or graduate of an accredited engineering or computer science program at the time of application with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8/4.0.Tuition and fees
Google FellowshipPhD students who will have completed coursework upon start of fellowship funding.

John von Neumann Postdoctoral Research FellowshipYou have or will receive a Ph.D. in applied/computational mathematics or a related area, such as computer science, engineering, or statistics, conferred after January 1, 2020 and no later than August 2024.

Nasa Space Technology Research FellowshipU.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program Three years of support over a five-year fellowship
NVIDIAStudents must have already completed their first year of PhD level studies at the time of application.Up to $60,000 per award
Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New AmericansImmigrants or children of immigrantsUp to $25,000 per year in stipend support for two years and $20,000 per year in tuition support for up to two years
Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the FutureWomen who are citizens of a developing country or emerging economy and preparing for a PhD degree or post-doctoral research in a STEM discipline.
