Seminar

Where do mathematics and theoretical CS fit into a computational landscape that is evolving super-exponentially nearly every week, especially within the context of industry? What is the relevance of theorems and proofs in the age of AI and automated reasoning? In this session, I will discuss some of the lines of research informing much of the tech industry recently.

Rik Sengupta is a Research Scientist at IBM in Cambridge as part of the MIT-IBM Watson AI Research Lab, working on algorithms, complexity theory, and AI. He finished his PhD in Computer Science in 2024 from UMass Amherst, under Andrew McGregor and Neil Immerman. He taught or TA’ed a number of theory courses during his time as a student, and mentored several MS and PhD students.

Students and alumni who register will be given the opportunity to snag a virtual 20 minute coffee chat with Rik. First come first serve! Sign up to our mailing list to get up to date info on all upcoming summer series workshops.
