Interests

Information retrieval, recommender systems, and machine learning.

Research

Professor Zamani's research focuses on designing and evaluating statistical and machine learning models with applications to (interactive) information access systems, including search engines, recommender systems, and question answering. Towards these goals he has developed efficientand effective deep learning models for various foundational information retrieval tasks, e.g., document ranking, in addition to some emerging applications, e.g., conversational search.

Biography

PhD, Computer Science, University of Massachusetts Amherst (2019), MS, Computer Engineering, University of Tehran (2015), BS, Computer Engineering, University of Tehran (2013). Most recently, he was a researcher at Microsoft. Professor Zamani joined the College of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as an assistant professor in 2020.

Activities & Awards

Professor Zamani serves on the program committees for major conferences in information retrieval (SIGIR, CIKM, WWW, WSDM, etc), and has served as a guest editor of ACM Transactions on Information Systems (TOIS). He received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award and Outstanding Dissertation Award from the College of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2017 and 2020, respectively.
