Biography

Mennatullah is a postdoc research associate at the HCI-VIZ Lab, CICS, UMass Amherst. She is an interdisciplinary urban planner working on the intersection of cities and computer science towards justice-driven interactions. She received her Ph.D. in Planning Building Environment from TU Berlin in Germany, advised by Prof. Jorg Stollmann. Mennatullah was a research associate at the Chair of Urban Design, TU Berlin where she is currently co-leading two research groups: Connecting Urbanity (Funded by Berlin University Alliance) and Towards Equitable Planning Curricula (Funded by TU Berlin). 

Since 2017, Mennatullah is a visiting researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space in Erkner, Germany, and since 2012, she is a faculty member at the Department of Urban Planning and Design in Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt - currently, an assistant lecturer on study leave. 

Before pursuing her doctorate studies, in 2015, Mennatullah competed an MSc. in Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design with a focus on urban policies from Stuttgart University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from Ain Shams University in Cairo, department of Urban planning and design.

Hendawy is co-founder of The  Counter-Mapping Laboratory, and Cairo Urban AI (Funded by Facebook research), a project working on exploring the potentials of using artificial intelligence to develop just and sustainable cities in Cairo, Africa, and beyond.
