College of Information and Computer Sciences undergraduate Xin Liu ('18) has been named a 2017-2018 Rising Researcher in recognition of his ambitious pursuit of research and scholarly activity.

Liu is a Commonwealth Honors student and computer science major working in Assistant Professor Sunghoon Ivan Lee's Advanced Human Health Analytics Lab. His work has focused on developing wearable sensors and data analytics methodologies to understand the health conditions associated with neurological disorders. Under Lee's direction, Liu investigates how to optimize specific algorithms that are relevant for understanding and quantifying hand use using data obtained from wearable sensors.

The Rising Researcher program is jointly supported by University Relations and Research & Engagement. Eligible undergraduates are identified by their faculty mentor/advisor and demonstrate leadership and impact in their chosen area of study.

Liu is one of six undergraduates to be recognized as a Rising Researcher this year. They will be honored at a reception with the chancellor in Spring 2018.
