In Memoriam: Lee Delaney ‘93BS

The UMass Amherst College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) community mourns the passing of alumnus Lee Delaney '93BS, president, chief executive officer and director of BJ's Wholesale Club.

"By all accounts, Lee was an intelligent and thoughtful leader, who had so much more to contribute to his community," says Laura Haas, CICS dean. "We are very proud of Lee's accomplishments and legacy, and extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues."

Prior to joining BJ's, Delaney was a partner in the Boston office of Bain & Company from 1996 to 2016. While at Bain, he led the Americas Consumer Products Practice, advising clients on a broad range of topics including strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and cost reduction. Previously, Delaney led consulting engagements for Electronic Data Systems and Deloitte Consulting. He was a member of the board of directors of PDC Brands Inc. 

Delaney earned an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with majors in computer science and mathematics. He recently received a 2021 CICS Outstanding Achievement and Advocacy (OAA) Award for "excellence in organizational design, marketing, and corporate strategy."
