UMassCTF Prep: Linux Fun-damentals (Domestic)

14 Sep
Monday, 09/14/2020 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Virtual via Twitch
Special Event

This event will be a hands-on introduction to Linux operating systems. Participants will learn how to set up their own virtual environments, get a feel for navigating the system, and acquire a number of important skills by solving a series of puzzles with their bash terminal.

The primary purpose of this event is to prepare people for UMassCTF, a week-long security-focused Capture-The-Flag event happening in early October. However, the topics we will cover are useful for more than just UMassCTF. For example, undergraduate CICS students will use virtual Linux environments in many of their courses, so learning the basics now is a great way to get a head start! There will be an emphasis on engagement: participants are encouraged to work along with the instructor and questions will be addressed in real-time.

This live stream event on Twitch is scheduled to work well for domestic students and will be made available on YouTube shortly afterwards. Early the following morning, there will be live streamed "office hours", specifically for international students, during which an instructor will briefly review the topics covered and work through any points of confusion with participants.

All are welcome and no experience is required! Join this meeting by clicking here.
