Perils and Opportunities for would be Academicians in India

India is changing with different strata of institutions providing higher education. There are many opportunities for establishing an academic career in these institutions. In the talk, I shall present my perspective about the difficulties and advantages of being an academician in India. In particular, I distinguish academics career in IIIT, Hyderabad, vis-a-vis other institutions. Further, I shall present a brief overview of current research work on payload transport systems and data analytics going on with my students.

Kamal Karlapalem graduated with Ph.D. in computer science from Georgia Tech in 1992. He worked as a faculty member at HKUST for eight years before moving to IIIT, Hyderabad in 2000. He spent a year at IIT, Gandhinagar, and has provided academics guidance to other IIIT's. He heads the Data Science and Analytics Center, and Agents and Applied Robotics research at IIIT, Hyderabad.
