Steve Vinter

Steve VinterSteve Vinter is an engineering director and site lead at Google's Kendall Square office in Cambridge, MA, and has overseen the growth of the site from 40 to over 1000 since 2007.

Steve began programming in high school and received a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Michigan. After working for a few years as a software engineer, he attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, receiving his Masters and Ph.D. while studying distributed systems as the Internet was emerging.

Steve has over 20 years of industry experience, working at a wide array of companies including BBN, an R&D lab; Software.com, a startup; Tufts University as a lecturer; and Dun & Bradstreet Software developing enterprise software.

Steve serves as a founding board member and vice president of the Kendall Square Association; overseer at the Museum of Science, Boston; advisor to MIT's OEOP program; member of Governor's STEM Advisory Council; and board member of the Community Charter School of Cambridge. Steve co-founded the MassCAN initiative to offer every K-12 student in Massachusetts the opportunity to learn computer science.
