We have used our discretion to share the most relevant aggregate data on the Class of 2018. We aim to protect the privacy of our students and alumni. Yes, we have made every effort to follow the First-Destination Survey Standards and Protocols documented by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
How many students graduated in the Class of 2018?
362, which consisted of 219 undergraduates (210 BS and 9 BA) and 143 graduates (129 MS and 14 PhD). 252 graduated in the spring, while the other 110 graduated in the summer, fall or winter.
What does 'knowledge rate' mean?
Knowledge rate reflects a collection of data gathering methods including but not limited to surveys. These include: LinkedIn, Senior Survey, MS PhD Celebration, National Student Clearinghouse, direct email or in-person communications with students and alumni.
How is 'knowledge rate' different than 'response rate'?
'Response rate' reflects data collected directly from students via our Handshake First Destination Survey. Survey responses provide the most detailed graduation data not available through other methods.

Which industries recruit computer science students?
Although this report focuses on our largest three that also help drive the Massachusetts economy (tech, healthcare, financial services), computer science students work for 22+ different industries including: Advertising, Civil Engineering, Defense, Government, Higher Education, Manufacturing, Entertainment, Religious Work, Research, Retail Stores, Scientific and Technical Consulting, Sports & Leisure, and Telecommunications.
Why are the Handshake Response Rates so low?
Surveys are difficult. Students receive many of them and this is an optional (although highly encouraged) survey. We are continuing to explore incentives and methods to increase the response rate, which helps us generate more insights for future students, alumni, employers, etc.
How can I participate in the next career fair?
Career fairs are marketed on our Careers website, and are also available to employers on Handshake. Save the Date: Our next Hire CS & Eng @UMass Fair will be on Feb-12.
What else can you tell me about the satisfaction metric?
It was consistent for undergraduates and graduates. Of the 16% who were not satisfied, 13% were 'somewhat satisfied' and only 3% were 'not satisfied'.
